'Rooney's time at Man Utd is finished' – Ince urges forward to leave Old Trafford

The former Red Devil thinks Rooney’s time is up with the club, but feels he still has a lot to offer in the English top-flight

Paul Ince believes that Wayne Rooney’s “time at Manchester United is finished” as the forward is no longer a guaranteed starter at Old Trafford.

Ince spent six seasons with United, lifting two Premier League titles under Alex Ferguson, before leaving for Inter Milan.

Evra: ‘Someone doesn’t want me at Man Utd’

The former England international feels that Rooney still has something to offer and should not be left to watch from the bench.

“If I was in his position, at his age, there’s absolutely no chance I’d stay at Manchester United,” Ince wrote in his Paddy Power column.

“Rooney is 31 and still has a lot to offer. He wants to play football, and wants to play every game. His time at Man United is finished if they can’t offer him that anymore. He’s too good to be a bit-part player and it’s time for him to move on from Manchester United.”

Ince has also hit out at Rooney’s critics for suggesting that he has declined and can no longer play at the highest level.

Rooney has just two Premier League goals this season, having made just eight starts under Jose Mourinho.

“People shouldn’t even be suggesting that Wayne Rooney is finished in football,” the 49-year-old continued.

“It’s disrespectful to even suggest that. He is world class, and has proven that time and time again at the highest level.

“There’s been talk of a move to China or to the MLS, but he still has plenty more to give to top-flight English football. If Jose Mourinho said he was available, there should be plenty of Premier League top half clubs who would jump to sign him.”
