Rooney: Moyes convinced me to sign new deal

The England international is keen to move on from the Sir Alex Ferguson era and concentrate on success with the current boss

Wayne Rooney says David Moyes was key to the striker signing a new deal with Manchester United before dismissing talk he asked for input on future club transfers.

The England international penned a new five-and-a-half-year contract with the Old Trafford outfit in February, believed to be worth a record £300,000 a week, to end fresh speculation regarding his future.

Rooney added: “I want to be clear about this: I have never asked the club for any input about transfers. To suggest otherwise is crazy.

“Who we buy and sell is nothing to do with me. It never has been and it never will. David Moyes is the manager and decisions like that are for him to make.”

Rooney, who has been capped 89 times by his country, joined United from Everton in 2004.
