Van Persie will be fine for Real Madrid clash, insists Sir Alex Ferguson

The United boss believes his top scorer will recover for the Champions League last-16 tie after being forced off and credited his team’s concentration for their win at QPR

Sir Alex Ferguson expects Robin van Persie to be fit for Manchester United’s Champions League game against Real Madrid on March 5.

The Dutchman was forced out of the Red Devils’ win over QPR on Saturday after colliding with a cameraman by the pitch and replaced by Danny Welbeck after hurting his hip.

Sir Alex gave an update on his condition after the final whistle, telling Sky Sports: “Van Persie seems to have collided with the camera dugout. We will assess him tomorrow – it was his hip.

“It will be tender but hopefully he will be alright in time for the Real Madrid game.”

The United manager credited his side’s concentration in their win against the Premier league’s bottom club, reserving special praise for Rafael’s stunning opener.

He added: “It was a great result, for us another game away.

“It was one of those games which was lively, on a tight ground, not a great deal of football played. From us it was more of a determination, a concentration on defending to get through it.

“It was unbelievable, goal of the month I would imagine, we were just starting to get into the game a little bit. It was a marvellous hit.

“You have to get that second goal and Ryan Giggs has a great record of scoring here. He’s delivered again – he’s an amazing man.”
