It was a dream come true for young Jay Howson. A Manchester United fan with a fondness for Wayne Rooney, he was given the opportunity to beat Fred the Red, twice, from the penalty spot during the half-time break as part of Chevrolet’s ‘What Do You #PlayFor?’ social and digital campaign.

He scored the first and put the second away with aplomb for good measure to widespread applause around the famous old ground.

The campaign, which marks the beginning of Chevrolet’s relationship with Manchester United, will see the brand rebuild pitches in developing regions around the world and distribute near indestructible footballs as part of the One World Futbol project.

All comers to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon could not fail to be taken in by the massive #PLAYFOR banner hanging over the West Stand stand with Rooney, Adnan Januzaj and some of United’s worldwide fan base beaming down on the assembled throngs.

Fans will play a big part when Chevrolet is officially revealed as United’s new shirt sponsor. Chevrolet is asking ‘What do you #PlayFor?’ as part of their campaign and former United defender Gary Pallister was on hand to offer his take.

“Trophies,” was how he put it. And there have been plenty of those at Old Trafford down throughout the years. Let’s hope Jay sees a few more.
