Buttner excited by Man United future

Despite being afforded just three Premier League appearances this season, the left-back has no intention to leave the club permanently or on loan

Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner has insisted the club are not looking to sell or loan him out as they see him as Patrice Evra’s successor, despite making just three Premier League outings this season.
The 24-year-old joined the club from Vitesse last summer with a view to pushing Evra for a first-team berth.

However, despite scoring and providing an assist in his Premier League debut, Buttner has had to rely on European and domestic cup competitions for opportunities.

“I’m doing very well and the club don’t want to sell me,” Buttner told Omroep Gelderland. “Manchester United see me as a successor for Evra, so they won’t loan me out to another club. After this, I am aiming for a successful pre-season ahead of the new season.”

United clinched a 20th league title with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday night – with Robin van Persie scoring a first-half hat-trick.

Buttner was on the substitutes’ bench for the game and, although he failed to make it on to the pitch, he said the experience was still something to cherish.

“It was super to experience something like this,” he added. “80,000 fans went crazy. It’s my first championship in the first year that I’m here.”
