Manchester Utd 3-2 Roma: Rooney and Mata on target as Red Devils win again

The Premier League outfit were three goals up at the break but a stunning effort from Miralem Pjanic from inside his own half and a Francesco Totti penalty set up a frantic finish

Manchester United edged to victory in Louis van Gaal’s second game in charge, with Wayne Rooney scoring twice and Juan Mata also on target in a 3-2 victory over Roma.

Rooney opened the scoring in fine style with a superb drive from the edge of the box that found the top corner before turning provider as Mata added a second just minutes later.

The England international then added a third just before the break from the penalty spot after Danny Welbeck had been brought down.

Two late goals from Roma set up a nervy finish for the Red Devils as Miralem Pjanic scored from his own half before Francesco Totti netted a late penalty, but Van Gaal’s side stood firm to pick up a second successive win.
