Dzeko hails ‘crucial’ derby win for Manchester City

Manuel Pellegrini’s side cruised to a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford to put them three points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with two games in hand

Edin Dzeko believes Manchester City’s derby victory over United is “crucial” in their Premier League title chase.
The Bosnia striker opened the scoring inside the opening 60 seconds at Old Trafford and doubled his tally 11 minutes into the second half. Yaya Toure struck late to wrap up the win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who are three points behind Chelsea with two games in hand.

“It was an amazing game from us from first to last minute,” Dzeko told Sky Sports.

“We wanted to start to play our game from the first minute, press them high.

“It could have been another one but we scored another two in the second half so we have to be happy.

“Before this game we had three games less than Chelsea. This game was important for us to be three points behind. This game could be crucial at the end of the season.

“There are four teams who want to win the title. very one has a chance. We have ten more games, some of them have eight, everything is open.”

Fernandinho believes the victory over David Moyes’ side will give City confidence with nine Premier League games remaining.

“Our team deserved to win. This game was key for us. The win was massive,” said the Brazilian.

“I think it can give us some confidence in our fight for the title. I think the confidence will be high for us.

“I think the confidence is higher now. We need to keep this in the next five games.”
