'Special' Manchester United reclaimed title in style, says Giggs

The veteran Red Devils midfielder paid tribute to his team-mates and their efforts this season while insisting there is plenty more to come from some of the younger players

Ryan Giggs says winning the title back for Manchester United after the heartbreak of last season is a special feeling.

The Welshman continued his remarkable record of scoring in every Premier League campaign this season as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side marched to their 20th top-flight title.

The 39-year-old said this title feels like one of the more special ones out of his 12 previous  championships.

“It’s obviously special. When you lose it in the manner that we did last year, to win it back is something special especially by putting on a show in the first-half, Robin’s goal – we did it in style,” he told Sky Sports.

“From Christmas onwards, we looked really good and once you got that platform of defence and when you have the flare players that we’ve got then you’ve always got a chance.”

Seven of the squad will lift the Premier League for the first time at the end of the season, and Giggs believes there is plenty more to come from the younger members of the squad.

“That’s the key to the manager’s success,” he continued. “The way he evolves and the way he is always looking forward and shows with the amount of young players we have in the team.

“These are exciting players and players who are going to be here for a very long time. They’ll hopefully carry on that tradition of competing for trophies.”

The former Wales international refused to be drawn on how long he plans to continue his playing career.

“I’m just enjoying it and as long as I’m enjoying it and contributing to the team then I’m going to carry on,” he added.

“It’s nights like this that you’re going to miss when you finish but it’s nights like this also that drive you on.”
