Premier League duo Aston Villa and Reading both came from behind on Saturday to avoid an early exit in the FA Cup third round.
Michael Chopra opened the scoring for Ipswich at Villa Park, yet out-of-favour striker Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann struck to ensure Paul Lambert’s men reached the fourth round.
Crawley took a 14-second lead against Brian McDermott’s men through Nicky Adams. However, the League One hosts could not prevent a comeback, with Reading running out 3-1 victors thanks to Adam Le Fondre goals either side of Nicky Hunt’s own strike.
There was also a comfortable 3-0 victory for Chris Hughton’s Norwich City away to Peterborough.
Macclesfield stunned Championship leaders Cardiff City with a late two-goal turnaround to dump the Bluebirds out of the Cup. Matthew Barnes-Homer scored twice to earn a 2-1 win for the Conference side.
Fellow Conference outfit Luton also bagged a major scalp in the shape of Wolves after Alex Lawless earned a 1-0 victory, while League One strugglers Oldham ensured Alex McLeish continued to endure a tough start to life as Nottingham Forest manager with a 3-2 win.
Tony Mowbray’s Middlesbrough ensured there would be no such upsets as they beat Hastings 4-1 at the Riverside, while Derby County trounced League One leaders Tranmere 5-0 at Pride Park.
Crystal Palace and Stoke, Hull and Leyton Orient, Leeds and Birmingham and Wigan and Bournemouth will all need a replay to decide the outcomes of their respective fixtures following draws on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Jermaine Beckford’s goal was enough to help Huddersfield defeat Charlton, while teenager Danny Rose struck for Barnsley to defeat Burnley and Leicester triumphed 2-0 over Burton Albion.
