Maguire apologises to fans after Liverpool defeat

The result leaves United seventh in the table, with the Reds’ next outing a trip to the capital to face Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday as Maguire insists it is a question of responding to this setback.

‘’I think, mentally for the lads, it will hurt,” he added. “These are the big games that you come to the club to be a part of and to play in, so obviously it’s going to hurt. I think everyone needs to take a look at themselves in the mirror.

“You’re playing for pride. We spoke at half-time and a lot was said at the break and obviously that’s something that will stay in the dressing room, as it should do. To concede so soon after the first half from our perspective to lose the ball so cheaply in midfield and, with one pass, they’re in and in on our goal, it’s not acceptable. We’ve got to improve and we know that and like you say, the red card forces into having to sit back and to try [to latch] onto small margins for the rest of the game.”
