PSG should sign Lacazette ahead of Di Maria – Leboeuf

The French champions need to start preparing for life after Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Marseille must do their utmost to keep Marcelo Bielsa, according to the former player

World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf believes that Paris Saint-Germain should focus their energy on signing Alexandre Lacazette.

The French champions have been linked with a number of high-profile stars this summer, including Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria, yet the 1998 World Cup winner has advised them to instead pursue the 24-year-old Olympique Lyonnais forward. Lacazette finished as Ligue 1 top scorer with a club record 27 goals and claimed the crown for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose deal in Paris expires in 12 months.

“I would take Lacazette ahead of Di Maria for PSG,” Leboeuf told Telefoot. “They must start to prepare for life after Ibrahimovic.”

Laurent Blanc’s side completed the domestic treble on Saturday evening by defeating Auxerre 1-0 at Stade de France, and despite the unconvincing nature of that win, the former Chelsea star has been impressed by what the Parisian outfit have accomplished over the course of the last year.

“PSG have shown their supremacy this season. Certain critics owe them a debt of apology,” he added.

The 44-year-old also cast his eye to former club Marseille, who he has urged to keep hold of head coach Marcelo Bielsa, whose first campaign in France has been wracked with frustration due to a lack of influence over the club’s transfer policy.

“It’s important that Bielsa stays at Marseille. I’d like to see what he could achieve with the squad he wants.”
