Manchester United target Clyne: I'm happy to stay at Southampton

The England international has been made a primary transfer target by the Old Trafford outfit but his agent is negotiating a new contract with the south coast club

Nathaniel Clyne insists he is happy to stay at Southampton despite interest from Manchester United.

Goal understands the Red Devils have made Clyne one of their primary summer transfer targets, with the Old Trafford outfit willing to offer Javier Hernandez in part-exchange for the £25 million-rated (€34m) full-back.

But Clyne, whose agent is in talks with Southampton over a new contract, could still remain at St Mary’s this summer.

“I’m enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it’s an up-and-coming club, so, yeah, I’m happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well,” he told the Southern Daily Echo.

Clyne’s current contract runs until the end of next season, though Koeman revealed last week that the player had just 10 days to decide whether he would commit to a new deal with the Saints.

The former Crystal Palace man explained that talks are ongoing as he focuses on helping the club finish the season on a positive note.

He added: “My agent is negotiating, so I’ll just leave it with my agent and I’m just going to concentrate on playing my football.”
