The Dutchman has avoided a fine after suggesting “everything was against us” following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Cambridge in the FA Cup third round in January
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been warned by the Football Association (FA) after he was found to have breached rules regarding media comments.
The Dutchman was charged with bringing the game into disrepute after the club’s 0-0 draw with Cambridge United in the FA Cup third round, having suggested “everything was against” his side, including the referee.
He subsequently appealed the decision, confirming that he was “very disappointed” with the FA’s decision to bring action against him, and he has now avoided a fine, with the FA instead issuing the former Netherlands coach with a warning.
“Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Wednesday 18 February 2015, Louis van Gaal has been warned as to his future conduct after he was found to have breached FA Rules in relation to media comments,” read a statement from the governing body.
“The Manchester United manager denied that his comments which followed The FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Cambridge United on 23 January 2015 alleged and/or implied bias on the part of the match referee, and/or brought the game into disrepute.”
Van Gaal’s side defeated Cambridge 3-0 in the replay of the first tie, and subsequently defeated Preston in midweek. They will face Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
