Van Gaal is the strong personality Manchester United needed, says Solskjaer

The Norwegian says the new manager has been a “breath of fresh air” at Old Trafford and says the Red Devils should not be ruled out of the Premier League title race

Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunner Solskjaer says Louis van Gaal has exactly the “strong personality” the club needs.

The Dutchman replaced David Moyes at Old Trafford and has led the Red Devils to third place in the Premier League table after a run of six consecutive wins.

Solskjaer, who won six titles during his 11 years at the club, says Van Gaal is exactly the right fit for the Red Devils.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air,” he told the Manchester Evening News. “The fans, the players needed a strong personality.

“You see he’s talking about winning the championship. I think that’s the Man United mentality.

“We shouldn’t talk about being third or fourth. We should talk about winning the league.”

The former Cardiff boss also feels his former team should not be ruled out of the title race despite being eight points behind leaders Chelsea.

“I’ve been here for too many years to say they can’t,” he added.

“Be in the hunt in March, April and you never know. That’s when everything gets decided.”
