Di Maria is one of the world's very best – Herrera

The Spaniard opened his account with a goal against QPR on Sunday and was delighted with the efforts of Manchester United’s fellow summer signings

Ander Herrera has hailed Manchester United’s new signings – particularly Angel Di Maria – after Louis van Gaal’s side swept to an impressive 4-0 victory over QPR on Sunday.

Di Maria opened the scoring on his Old Trafford debut, with Herrera adding a second as the United debutants secured the Red Devils’ first win of the 2014-15 season.

With Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo also putting in solid displays in their first games for United and Radamel Falcao appearing off the bench late on, Herrera is backing the club’s new recruits to shine.

“Angel is one of the best players in the world. Manchester United always has to have top players and he is one of the best,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have Radamel Falcao as well, with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw. I think we have a new team but we are improving, we are working hard and we are looking forward to this season.”

Asked about Rojo and Blind’s first performances in a United shirt, Herrera said: “I think they played very good football, they had some very good passes and always kept the ball.

“Marcos is very, very aggressive and this is important for the team. Blind never loses the ball and we are happy, but of course we have to improve still.”

Herrera capped an impressive display with a vital goal just four minutes after Matt Phillips wasted a gilt-edged opportunity for the visitors, but insists it is points, rather than goals, which are his target at United.

“I am happy, of course,” Herrera added. “It is important to make a goal at Old Trafford, one of the best stadiums in the world. I am happy for my goal but I am happier because we won.

“I wish it can be our first step and I am sure is it. The next games are very important because we want to be as soon as possible at the top of the league.”
