Zorc: Dortmund want Lewandowski to stay

The club’s sporting director feels there is no reason for the Polish striker to leave the German champions this summer

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has said that the club do not to lose Robert Lewandowksi at the end of the campaign.

The Polish striker has been linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent months, but the 50-year-old has no desire to see a player of such quality leave the Westfalenstadion.

“He has developed into a world-class player with us in the last three years,” the former Germany international told Sport Bild.

“Lewandowski is among the best three strikers in Europe. We don’t depend on a transfer fee this term. Why shouldn’t he stay another season?”

Zorc went on to say that he would like to see playmaker Mario Gotze remain with the German champions until he retires.

“I’d love to keep Mario at BVB until he’s 35,” he continued.

“We’re planning the next years with him. It’s our desire that he’ll stay for a long time and he knows that. Mario feels very comfortable at BVB. He and his agent will deal with his future responsibly, I’m sure of that.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side have reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where they face Malaga.
