TEAM NEWS: Rooney and Van Persie start against Norwich as Giggs misses out on 1000th Manchester United appearance

Ryan Giggs will have to wait for his 1000th appearance for Manchester United after being left out of the squad to face Norwich City.

Sir Alex Ferguson has named a strong line-up despite facing a crucial Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie starting up front.

There’s no space in the squad for Rio Ferdinand as Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans play in defence with Patrice Evra, whilst Anderson and Shinji Kagawa have also been handed starting roles.

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea; Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Anderson, Kagawa; Rooney, Van Persie.
