The Red Devils will kick-off preparations for the 2013-14 season with a friendly in Thailand on July 13, and chief executive David Gill insists it will be a “great game” for all
Manchester United have announced that their next pre-season tour will feature a fixture against a Singha All Star XI in Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium.
The Premier League side first visited Thailand in 1975, and have returned to play friendlies a number of times since after amassing a large number of supporters in that part of the globe.
The Red Devils haven’t visited the country in 12 years, however, and United chief executive David Gill says the friendly provides a great opportunity to put on a show for the club’s foreign fans.
He told the club’s official website: “Our visit to Thailand in July plays an important role in the team’s pre-season preparations for the season ahead, as well as enables the club to engage with some of its global fans and commercial partners.
“There are over 19.5 million Manchester United followers in Thailand and the club has been lucky enough to visit on a number of occasions.
“The game will be the first match of the Manchester United 2013 Tour, presented by Aon, and we are all looking forward to a great game.”
United have scheduled a number of fixtures across Asia over the summer, including clashes with Cerezo Osaka and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan.
