It is strange to think that Swansea City were heavily tipped to go straight back down upon entering the top-flight last year, as the Welsh side now look so at home at this level that is is easy to forget that they have only been playing Premier League football for one full season.
The Swans have already beaten the big names of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool in the league, and have gained creditable draws against both Chelsea and Spurs, but are yet to take any points away from the behemoth that is Manchester United.
Michael Laudrup’s men will look to put that right when they host the Premier League leaders on Sunday, and they are available at 4/1 (5.00) with Paddy Power to add to their growing collection of scalps with a victory.
Alex Ferguson’s men are renowned for ruthlessly sweeping aside the league’s more modest clubs, and are unsurprisingly 4/6 (1.67) favourites to come away from the Liberty Stadium with all three points.
United are the only team in the league not to draw a single game so far this season, but you can get odds of 14/5 (3.80) on that record coming to an end with a stalemate on Sunday.
The Red Devils’ reputation as comeback kings is well established, and their have been more goals in the second half in 15 of their 25 games in all competitions this season.
Considering the second period has also been the more fruitful in nine of the last 12 for Laudrup’s men, odds of 10/11 (1.91) seem decidedly generous for there to be more goals after the break when this pair come head-to-head, and are not to be missed.
While summer signing Robin Van Persie hogged the limelight for much of the early stages of the season, Wayne Rooney has come into a rich vein of form in front of goal recently, hitting five goals in his least three matches.
The England international tends to score his goals in patches, and often strikes more than once in a game. He has hit three doubles so far this season, with two of them coming in his last three outings.
With this in mind, it could well be worth backing the in-form striker man to hit two goals or more in this match, at inviting 5/1 (6.00) odds.
