The former Ajax and PSV coach is confident the Manchester United winger will be nullified by his former team-mate Santiago Arias in Tuesday’s Champions League game
Memphis Depay has no chance of enjoying a prosperous return to PSV when he takes on his former side in Manchester United’s first Champions League group game on Tuesday, according to Aad de Mos.
The 21-year-old, who was substituted at half-time in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Liverpool. returns to Eindhoven for the first time since his summer move to Old Trafford on Tuesday.
The Netherlands international was the league’s top goalscorer last term as he helped fire Phillip Cocu’s men to the title, but De Mos believes he is in for a difficult night back at the Philips Stadion as he comes up against right-back Santiago Arias.
“Arias will devour him,” he told Omroep Brabant. “I am sure, 100 per cent.
The former Ajax and PSV coach admits that Untied have a strong team, but does not believe they have been impressive so far this term.
“By the looks of it, Manchester United have a great team, but I’ve seen them play live twice and what they have done on the pitch is not impressive,” he added.
“PSV have shown they can play very well, I saw at times that they are truly of an international class.
“Daley Blind is their main builder and Chris Smalling is a great defender. The attack has quality in Memphis and Wayne Rooney, but otherwise they are disappointing, so I think PSV can win.”
