Man Utd Eye Double Swoop for Leeds Duo Who Are ‘Blowing Away’ Scouts

Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Leeds stars Kalvin Phillips and loanee Ben White, following the pair’s strong start to the new season.

Phillips and White have propelled Marcelo Bielsa’s side to third place in the Championship after 16 games, only two points behind leaders West Brom.

Manchester United have sent scouts to watch the Leeds duo over the course of the new campaign, and a source from the Red Devils has apparently told Football Insider that the pair are ‘blowing away’ their admirers with a string of excellent performances.

The Premier League giants are keen to recruit the best young British talent as they continue to enforce their new transfer policy, which has seen the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James all arrive at Old Trafford.

Phillips signed a new five-year contract with the Whites this summer, following months of speculation over the 23-year-old’s future. However, the midfielder’s new deal includes a release clause which can be activated if Leeds fail to gain promotion at the end of this season.

White has impressed many possible suitors during his opening months at Elland Road, and his parent-club Brighton have already increased his potential value to around £20m. The Seagulls have no intention of selling the 22-year-old however, and Graham Potter sees the centre-back as a future permanent fixture in his side.

United have been joined by Liverpool in the race for the Brighton defender’s signature, as the Premier League’s elite clubs look to bolster their defensive options for the coming years.

Leeds will be desperate to hold on to their star assets, particularly midfielder Phillips, and promotion to the top flight of English football would certainly boost their chances of retaining his services.

Bielsa’s side suffered playoff heartbreak last season, losing to Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the semi-final, having led the promotion chase for the majority of the campaign.
