Southampton full-back Luke Shaw is set for a medical at Manchester United ahead of a summer move to Old Trafford.
The England youngster flew into Manchester Airport on Wednesday with the rest of his international team-mates following their premature exit from the World Cup and is set to finalise the terms of his much-anticipated transfer.
United have beaten off stiff competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham for the 18-year-old by offering the left-back an astonishing financial package.
Shaw will be handed a deal worth £160,000-a-week that will make him the highest paid teenager in world football. United had been hoping to complete the transfer before the World Cup but were hindered by Southampton’s own pursuit of a new manager.
Ronald Koeman was duly appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor earlier this month and the south coast club are now expected to accept an offer of around £27 million for a player with just three senior international caps to his name.
