The 21-year-old has been restricted to nine Premier League starts this season due to injury but has been tipped to become a “phenomenal player” for the Red Devils by the Scot
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Phil Jones to become one of the club’s greatest ever players.
Since his arrival from Blackburn Rovers in June 2011, the 21-year-old has featured in a variety of positions including centre-back, right-back and central midfield.
An ankle injury has restricted Jones to just nine starts in the Premier League this season, but after the club’s title victory, Ferguson believes the England international will develop into an influential player at Old Trafford.
“Jones is going to be a phenomenal player,” Ferguson told reporters.
“He has a fantastic influence, no matter where he plays. He has an instinct for the game and a drive about him.
“I have no idea where his best position is. He could play anywhere on the pitch. But he will be one of the best players we have ever had.”
