Wim Camp has followed his grandson’s career from the very start and was able to watch him plunder the hat-trick that confirmed United as Champions for the 20th time on Monday
Robin Van Persie’s grandfather toasted his grandson’s Premier League title success and says he’ll plant a ‘big fat kiss’ on the Manchester United striker when they reunite next month.
Wim Camp watched from his home in Prinsenbeek, Breda via television as his grandson scored a first-half hat-trick in Monday’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa which secured the first league title of his career in his debut season at Old Trafford.
The 92-year-old has yet to speak to Van Persie since United wrapped up their 20th top-flight crown and admits he can’t wait to congratulate his grandson on his achievements that have left him brimming with pride.
“On May 4 I’ll visit him again,” he told Omroep Brabant. “Then Manchester United will play against Chelsea. Actually, that game is no longer important.
“But I don’t care. I’ll give him a big fat kiss and thank him for all the football joy he gave me last Monday.”
Camp also revealed he has been an avid spectator of Van Persie’s this season, while also praising his second goal, stunning 20-yard volley, which is sure to be a contender for Goal of the Season.
“Amazing. I’ve seen it all on the television. It’s unbelievable what he’s doing over there,” he added.
“Technically that’s a very difficult ball to strike. It looked like a missile that was fired. He hit the ball so well, so precise, fantastically placed.”
