The midfielder’s move had looked in doubt after La Liga outfit rejected the Red Devils’ initial bid of £28million, but he now looks set to become Louis van Gaal’s first signing
Ander Herrera is poised to join Manchester United after Athletic Bilbao confirmed that the player has paid his buyout clause.
The Spanish outfit had rejected an initial £28million bid from Louis van Gaal’s side, but with the midfielder having arrived at Carrington for a medical on Wednesday, a move always seemed likely to be agreed.
And the way is now clear for the 24-year-old to sign for the Red Devils in what would represent van Gaal’s first signing since replacing David Moyes as manager.
“The Football League has certified Athletic Club that player Ander Herrera Agüera has fulfilled the requirements of the applicable regulations valid for unilateral termination of the employment contract that bound him to our club, by depositing today the amount of compensation established in the contract,” a statement from the Spanish club read.
“The Athletic Club thanks Ander Herrera for his dedication during the three seasons he has enjoyed the club and wishes him the best in his future sports projects.”
The Old Trafford outfit have been chasing the playmaker for over a year following reports of Moyes’ interest ahead of the 2013-14 season, and now look set to finally get their man.
