U21s: West Bromwich Albion v Manchester United

A long-range strike from Eseosa Sule thundered across the crossbar as the first half went on, with Harrison then producing a fine save to deny Deago Nelson in the aftermath.

Our lead became two just moments later however, with McNeill again involved throughout. His first-time cross was neatly tapped home by Ennis, doubling United’s advantage.

The second half was controlled throughout by Binnion’s men, as McNeill and Missin combined well once more. The latter flashed an effort just wide of Cisse’s goal shortly after the restart.

With 67 minutes on the clock it was three and McNeill’s hard work was duly rewarded, as he lofted the ball over Albion’s goalkeeper, following a neat pass out through midfield from Aljofree.

United continued to dominate the ball in the final stages, with Forson and Baumann both going close late on.

Antony’s view on ‘very important moment’

The 24-year-old was introduced to the game as a second-half substitute, with Erik ten Hag’s side trailing 2-1 and the visitors well in control.

There were just three minutes of normal time left on the clock when Antony swivelled in the box and found the bottom corner with his right foot, a goal which levelled the scores at 2-2 and forced a breathless 30 minutes of extra-time.

It was the first goal at Old Trafford for Antony for over a year and a clear boon for our no.21, who was a lively presence for United throughout his time on the pitch, first as a traditional winger before finishing the game out of position at left-back.

“It was a very important goal, it gave us the chance to go to extra-time and try to win,” the Brazilian said after the game.

Rashford: Amad’s been working hard

It was a dramatic St Patrick’s Day clash against arch-rivals Liverpool, which saw Erik ten Hag’s side go down twice in the game before Amad broke on the counter with fellow winger Alejandro Garnacho in the last minute of extra-time.

Receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area from the Argentina international, Amad expertly placed the ball beyond the grasp of Caoimhin Kelleher in stoppage time; a goal so climactic that the 21-year-old forgot he had already been booked and received a second yellow card for removing his shirt during the chaotic celebrations at the Stretford End.

It is a goal, and a game, that will go down in Old Trafford folklore and be retold for United fans for years to come, but team-mate Rashford believes that the performance will also make a positive impact on Amad’s career in the near future.

Erik says United can handle injuries now

“And so we can deal better with such situations,” he added. “Where we were in autumn, it was difficult to adjust where we had all the injuries.

“So what you now see in January, February, March, we can deal better with this. And still we have a lot of injuries, but we can deal with it. We get our wins.”

United do now have a break before travelling south to face Brentford in the Premier League and things are looking encouraging with Mason Mount making his comeback, after being out since November, and Harry Maguire also returning to put in an impressive shift, in defence and up front.
