WHO IS OUR TOP SCORER AT WEMBLEY?
Having scored a total of 29 goals at the ‘new’ national stadium since our first visit back in 2007, the Reds have averaged 1.36 per game and will hope to certainly add a few more to that tally come Sunday afternoon.
In terms of the top goalscorer in United colours, that accolade is shared amongst three former players, with Wayne Rooney, Luis Nani and Jesse Lingard having all found the net three times at Wembley Stadium.
Rooney and Nani both scored during normal time of our 2009 Community Shield loss to Chelsea (2-2 AET, 4-1 pens) under Sir Alex Ferguson, before Rooney scored again in that very same 2009/10 season to help us lift the League Cup, as we beat Aston Villa 2-1.
Nani’s other two strikes came in the same game as we beat Manchester City 3-2 in the 2011 Community Shield, with Lingard’s three goals coming in three wins against Palace (FA Cup final 2016), Leicester City (Community Shield 2016) and Southampton (League Cup final 2017).
