With the games coming thick and fast Christmas is always an exciting time for football fans in England. This weekend sees a full complement of matches in the Premier League and I’ll be hoping to profit from Totel Football as part of my punting portfolio.

Asmir Begovic

The Stoke goalkeeper is in with a good chance of getting some fantasy football points this weekend. The Potters host a Southampton side who have failed to score in three of their last five games on the road. With Tony Pulis’ side very capable of frustrating sides this could be another clean sheet for the hosts.

Jan Vertonghen

The defence has a very Belgian feel about it this week. Jan Vertonghen is a consistent points scorer in Totel Football, nine points against Aston Villa, seven against Stoke and 15 against Swansea for his match winning goal and a clean sheet make him an easy pick.

Thomas Vermaelen

There was no game for Arsenal on Boxing Day so their squad should be well rested compared to the majority of the division. The visit of a Newcastle side who’ve been leaking plenty of goals of late means Vermaelen could exceed his average of five points per game.

Vincent Kompany

The Manchester City defender hasn’t been a high scorer in recent weeks but the game against Norwich should be close one. The Canaries don’t concede many at Carrow Road and Roberto Mancini’s side have kept three clean sheets in their last five Premier League matches on the road so this could be a low scoring clash.

Robert Huth

As I mentioned earlier, Stoke’s imperious home record means their defenders are great picks in fantasy football and Huth can add to his nine clean sheets this season against Southampton. It’s a risky tactic to have both a goalkeeper and centre-back from the same side but it has double the reward potential.

Juan Mata

A winning goal against Norwich last time out makes it seven goals for Juan Mata this season and seven assists too. With just one booking to his name he’s a definite inclusion in this week’s Totel Football team.

Gareth Bale

The Wales international grabbed the headlines for his display against Aston Villa, that was a performance which earned him 30 fantasy football points. He’ll be a popular choice with punters but another double figure score could well be on the cards against Sunderland.

Theo Walcott

Walcott is classed as a midfielder in the Totel Football listings which makes him an ideal player to include in your team. It’s well known that he wants to play in a more advanced role and he’s hit five goals and four assists this season while doing so. If he plays against Newcastle you could essentially be playing three forwards instead of two.

Adel Taarabt

A home game against Liverpool might not be the best opportunity for QPR to increase their points total but it’s certainly not the worst. Adel Taarabt is capable of brilliant displays like the one against Fulham and if he can stay disciplined then he can add to his four goal total for the season.

Robin van Persie

12 goals and six assists mean Robin van Persie averages eight points per game this season. West Brom may have picked up in form in recent weeks but they’ve conceded nine goals in their last five away games and the Netherlands international could increase his goals tally this weekend.

Demba Ba

The Newcastle frontman has 10 goals this season and he’ll pose a significant threat against Arsenal. He didn’t get on the scoresheet against Manchester United but Arsenal should provide him ample opportunity to add to his total.
